Shez Raja’s bass-led collective play a unique fusion of funk and jazz permeated with eclectic grooves and eastern flavours. Following two acclaimed album releases and several spectacular performances they have amassed a devoted following. Shez releases his new album Mystic Radikal this July on 33 Records. Featuring one of the UK’s foremost saxophonists Andy Sheppard and international jazz star Claude Deppa on trumpet, the third release promises exciting music that hits all of the emotions. The Collective’s live show is an intoxicating headcharge of raw energy and there will be plenty of chances to catch them on tour.

For those who enjoy the piano styling’s of Michel Camilo, this is a delight to enjoy and savour. The Ricardo Trio bring a formidable rhythm section with Peter Szendofi, who cut his musical teeth with the prestigious Drummers Collective School in New York.

The concert itself brought numerous pleasant surprises to the visitors, one of which was an unexpected half-hour performance of a critically acclaimed Japanese composer and jazz pianist Makoto Kuriya, whose emotionally rich improvisation had straight away set the quality of musicianship to the highest level. After Kuriya’s lyrical, somewhat “chopinesque” performance the stage was captured by the ornate Middle-Eastern melodies and chromatic musical cascades, which have always distinguished Izmailov from his guitar counterparts. After performing a number of pieces as a soloist, he was joined by the two members of his band: Ayder Ashyrov on drums and 20-years old violinist Ruslan Bolatov, who also proved to be an incredibly talented pianist. Performing for the first time as a trio, they have based their programme on Izmailov’s latest album “River of Time” but also breathed new life and new emotions into the famous jazz standards (one of which was Tizol/Ellingon’s immortal “Caravan”) blending the famous motives into the exquisite arrangements of theirs and leaving the audience with new experiences of distant cultures.

Mr. Izmailov will also be performing a short set of his original compositions. The live broadcast is to start at 6pm and end at 6.30 after which Enver’s performance at the PizzaExpress Jazz Club is to take place at 8pm.
